| These speakers work remarkably well. We have been enjoying using them on our patio and expect to use them for a long time to come. |
Good for general use

This was a snap to get unpacked and setup, it all worked smoothly. I didn't test it for battery life or distance as it wasn't necessary. I was happy that it has a place to keep the remote on the unit so it isn't misplaced. Also that it can run on an adapter. Sounded good to me (but I'm also not very sound system savy, if I can hear it and there's no buzz I'm happy).
I got this as a gift for my dad who's hard of hearing. I wanted him to put it by his seat so he wouldn't turn the tv up so loud. He ended up not liking it because he didn't want the sound coming to him from the side instead of in front (from the TV) because it was disorienting to him. He would turn the wireless speaker on AND leave the tv on and it would be terrible because that would cause an aweful echo. I ended up returning it for him. If it'd been for myself I'm pretty sure I would have been happy and kept it.
So overall, for the everyday person it seems like a good bet. If it's for your grumpy hard-of-hearing dad, maybe not :P |
Decent sound, range limited

I bought them to use in the kitchen while I'm cooking and for the back yard. Both are close to where the transmitter is. I found a pair of these from Costco.com for $179. It was two complete speaker kits in one box so the transmitter, remote, etc were doubled up.
The speakers sound pretty decent and have adequate bass. The sound is a lot better and cleaner when I run it from the pre-outs on my receiver than directly plug my ipod into one of the speakers.
Pros
*Wireless and battery operated. I bought some Eneloop rechargeables (AAs with D size adapter) and they work well.
*Can hook to multiple devices (RCA cables + mini stereo/ipod on the transmitter and mini stereo to the speaker itself)
*Can run stereo or mono. (most of the other speakers I researched were mono only)
*Decent sound quality
Cons
*Range stated by manufacturer is grossly overstated. I can get about 30 feet without static (popping) if there are walls in the way. I have tried about 40 feet without walls and it's fine. (Haven't tried further)
*Product support (e-mail) was slow and not helpful. They don't take phone calls. (I asked about the popping and poor distance)
*Each speaker takes 6 D batteries
*To switch it to hear left channel, you move the switch to the right and vice versa (counter intuitive)
*The speakers are fairly large, about the size of large shoebox.
In short, I like the speakers. I wish the range was closer to what is advertised but they work for what I need.

Great potential, but left me disappointed

Looks great, very easy to set up. Took me less than 5 minutes to get it up and running. The sound is better than I had expected after reading the reviews, it will certainly work for use on our deck while we entertain or use the pool. The pool filter is under the deck directly below this unit and it is still very listenable.
After checking and re-checking all the connections (I plugged the unit into an outside outlet, no batteries for me) I was very frustrated that I couldn't get my ipod to play through the transmitter's headphone jack. I thought I was doing something wrong. I then took the ipod and headphone cord and plugged it directly into the speaker and it worked terrific. I then read the directions word for word, then on the back page, lo and behold, and I quote: The transmitter for this speaker set is designed to work with a variety of devices. Our tests have shown the default volume levels of ipods, MP3players and other devices connected to the transmitter through the headphone jack does not have the signal strength required by the transmitter. We recommend that you keep the volume set on your ipod or MP3 player at a minimum of 3/4 of full volume
Well mine is at max volume and still will not work through the transmitter. Soooooo, why don't you just connect to your pc and run directly from itunes you ask? Well the RCA to RCA cable provided does not fit the connections to the back of my Dell pc which is fairly new (2-3years or so). So this leave me somewhat frustrated and disappointed by the technicality which is on the back page of the directions, not very easy to find. I can certainly bring the ipod outside and go from there, but the wireless aspect was why I purchased this product in the first place.
Undecided if I am going to return it or not... |

| Was going to replace wall-mounted speakers for our deck. Decided to give this a try instead. What a great product! When we want music on the deck, we just grab this. Sure the SRS/WOW manipulates the sound, but who cares?; it's not very quiet outside anyway. Sit it close to a wall; that really enhances low frequencies (bass). Thought I'd miss having stereo, but I don't (you can get stereo by using two of these). We don't plug it in, we use batteries. Just replaced the first set after about 5 weeks of 2-3 hours use daily. Mood light's a little silly, but it is cool (we seldom use it). Don't look any further, this' the one. |

| I purchased two of these speakers to use on our deck, but the range is too far for the speakers to work. We live in a split level and the stereo is downstairs. As long as the speaker is upstairs inside the house it works fine but as soon as I move it a few feet to the deck outside, I get nothing. I just use my IPOD and a outlet. I haven't figured out how to connect the two together for the outside yet but the sound quality is great. |

I bought this speaker to replace a couple of Sharper Image speakers that I have had for a long time and that bit the dust. I have to say that this one speaker works as well as the two speakers I used to have. It is amazing how much sound comes out of one speaker. I use the speaker out at my pool/patio and don't even have to turn it up all the way for it to cover the whole patio.
I almost returned this speaker and then realized I set it up wrong. Every time I turned it up, the sound would go in and out with a popping sound. I read a previous review where someone experienced the same thing. I finally realized that I used the power adapter from my old speakers by accident. Using the proper adapter fixed everything. I mention this since other people have experienced this same problem. You may want to check your power if this happens to you. Your outlet could be bad or you may be using a power strip that is bad.
I would recommend this speaker and may buy another one for my other patio. |
